Reclaiming Their Own Narrative

Por Vida Media Youth Collective (PVM) focuses on the freshest generation of reporters and on-air content creators. Developing youth story circles that provide a platform to voice how issues directly impact young adults and our shared communities. Members receive 150-200 hours of training in production, hosting, editing, and recording, which can range from micro-content (under 70-seconds), to longer, magazine style stories that will be heard on KQBH 101.5 fm and via online platform and app - lpfm.la.

Participants learn how to effectively incorporate digital media tools in collective narrative practices to provide youth with the opportunity to work together to build empathy, understanding, and solidarity around issues important to them. 

Por Vida Media Youth Collective (PVM) members meet weekly to pitch stories, create segments, and produce a live radio program that airs Fridays at 5pm. Participants also create short form videos where they make up the production team, from sound, lighting, camera, pre and post production. This valuable experiences introduces them to careers in media arts while supporting their professional portfolios and provide a working studio environment.

Por Vida Media Youth Collective (PVM) is for anyone ages 13-22, with an emphasis on youth who reside or work within KQBH broadcast radius of Boyle Heights, El Sereno, City Terrace, East Los Angeles, South LA, Chinatown, Little Tokyo, Southpark, Alhambra, and Montebello. This opportunity is open to all regardless of immigration, economic, regional, or student status.

Visual Arts (Photography, Digital Art,)

Media Arts (Podcast, Radio, PSAs, Stop-Motion Animation)

Music Arts (Publishing, Instrumentation, Production and Editing)
